CENTURION: South Africa’s fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch on Thursday, made a ground-breaking Test debut by taking a wicket on the first delivery of his red-ball career during the opening fixture against Pakistan here at the SuperSport Park.

The right-arm pacer achieved the feat in the 15th over of Pakistan’s innings when he got Shan Masood caught by Marco Jansen in the slip cordon.

As a result, Bosch joined Australia’s veteran right-arm spinner Nathan Lyon in the list of bowlers to take a wicket on the first delivery of their Test career.

Bosch became just the fifth South African to amass the unique feat and the 25th overall.

Australia’s Tom Horran was the first bowler to take a wicket on the first delivery of Test debut, achieving the feat in Sydney against England in 1883 while, legendary all-rounder Intikhab Alam is the only Pakistani to start his international red-ball career with a wicket.

When this story was filed, Bosch had taken three wickets for 55 runs in his 11 overs as he later added Saud Shakeel and counterpart Aamir Jamal to the list of his scalped batters.

His bowling exploits, coupled with Dane Paterson’s four-wicket haul, had reduced Pakistan to 189/7 in 49 overs, with Salman Ali Agha and number nine batter Naseem Shah on strike.
